Buying your first car?

New or used, there’s nothing more thrilling than setting out to purchase your first set of wheels. But it’s a vast market, and can be a bit overwhelming, especially for first-time buyers. So, we’ve put together a few handy tips to help get the process started:

Want vs need – find a balance

We all want to drive the car of our dreams, but is it the car you need? Before starting the search, think about what you need from your vehicle. Are you spending long hours on the roads? Commuting through the daily traffic? Once you’ve narrowed down the must-haves, you can find a balance between what you need and what you want.

Set a reasonable budget

Remember the extra costs when determining how much you have to spend on a new car. Your budget should include registration fees, taxes, and running costs. There’s no point emptying your bank account for a large SUV if you can’t afford to refuel it every week.

Do your research

Do as much research as you can before you buy. Is the car you’re considering reliable? What does it cost to repair? Does it meet consumer expectations? Read reviews by professionals and other drivers to ensure you’re making an informed decision before proceeding with your purchase. After all, a car is a big investment.
